(Computer Numerical Control Router)
CNC Router is a computerized woodworking machine that can cut shapes created by vector graphics software very accurately. I design on a OpenSource graphics software called Inkscape, which is availabe for free on all operating systems, including Linux. Then the design is uploaded to the CNC Router to cut the female and the male parts of the inlay. After a small adjustment by sanding and making sure the male part fits perfectly the two parts are glued. Finally, the access wood is shaved down and with some fine sanding the board is ready...
I also give private lessons on how to make cutting boards using the CNC Router at a very cool studio in Hoboken called The DIY Joint Please visit their web site to see availability... Or you can email me and I can help you set up a date...
